About CBPS

The Society was set up in January 1988 following discussions at a course run by the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding (tutored by Joseph Lo, Qu Lei Lei and Zhong Ming), and soon had many members throughout the UK. Jean Long and Joseph Lo were our first Presidents. Qu Lei Lei carved our Society seal.

Our aims are:

  • to promote and foster traditional Chinese brush painting techniques;
  • to promote and foster a better understanding of the culture and the associated arts of China;
  • to promote and encourage friendships with Chinese artists worldwide;
  • to promote good teaching of traditional art and materials of Chinese brush painting, together with the background ethos and culture of Chinese art.

Since the Society was established, we have been very fortunate to have the support of many Chinese artists based in the UK, China and Malaysia. Our current honorary Presidents are Jane Evans and Qu Lei Lei.

CBPS supports Chinese Brush Painters in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) and international members:  explore the benefits of membership of CBPS.

We would like to welcome you to join the Society. CBPS membership is open to adults aged 16 or over who have an interest in Chinese Brush Painting (CBP) and who pay the annual subscription.

There are a number of regional CBP groups around the UK.   If you want to be put in touch with any other local group, contact CBPS.
